Masters of Reality is seeking a skilled Prep Artist to join our team. As a Prep Artist, you will be responsible for producing high-quality paint, roto, and clean-up work to prepare shots for compositing. This role is crucial to ensuring seamless visual effects by removing unwanted elements, creating clean plates, and delivering precise mattes..
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform clean-up, paint, and wire/rig removals to a high standard
Create accurate roto mattes for characters, props, and other elements
Generate clean plates to support compositing and other downstream departments
Collaborate with Compositors and Supervisors to ensure prep work aligns with creative and technical goals
Maintain consistency and quality across sequences while meeting production deadlines
Troubleshoot and problem-solve prep challenges efficiently
Follow studio workflows, naming conventions, and delivery standards
REQUIREMENTS
3+ years of experience as a Prep or Roto/Paint Artist in a VFX studio (feature film, episodic, or commercial work)
Strong skills in Nuke (essential)
Proficiency in paint and roto techniques, including complex motion blur and fine detail work
Solid understanding of compositing workflows and how prep fits into the pipeline
Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to deliver pixel-perfect work
Ability to take direction and respond well to feedback
Strong time management skills and the ability to hit tight deadlines
Experience in Silhouette, Mocha, or other roto/paint tools
Knowledge of 3D projection and camera tracking
Previous work on high-end feature film VFX
